Ms. Claudia Heilman
Cheilman@beaumontschool.org
- Materials Needed
- Loose-leaf Notebook for daily notes on homework, class notes and discussions. Organize by date and topic. Corrected Homework will be kept in your notebook for quiz and test review.
- Folders for handouts.
- Paper, Pen, Pencils & multiple hilighters.
- Assignment Notebook or Folder.
- English Dictionary.
- Assignments
- All assignments must be neatly done in pen or pencil. Spelling counts. Assignments may be corrected in class by you OR may be handed in to me for correction. BE prepared!
- All homework must be done on time or points will be deducted. The average amount of homework should be 45-60 minutes per night.
- All major tests, projects, presentations must be completed on their due dates! Absence is no excuse for turning in major assignments late; these should be sent with someone on the day on the day they are due. Major assignments will be dropped one grade for each day they are late!
- Homework may be checked by a quiz on the day it is due to make certain the assignment has been done.
- Students MUST check their E-mail nightly as additional assignments or changes in scheduled work will take place. When absent a student needs to contact Ms. Heilman for her assignment the next day so she is not behind.
- Quizzes
- May be Announced or Unannounced.
- Quizzes will vary in type and point value.
- Tests
- Tests will always be announced.
- A Review sheet and class time for review will be the norm.
- Sample questions and Format of Test will be stated.
- Latin Foundations is a subject that is accumulative - you may not wait until the last minute and try to study for the test. Vocabulary MUST be learned when assigned and in advance.
- Cheating
- Dishonesty will not be tolerated! You will receive zero points on the assignment/quiz/test. Parents will be notified as well as the Administration.
- Cheating includes copying another student’s work OR allowing your work to be copied by another student.
- Submitting someone’s else’s work as your own, giving answers to another student during the test, using a cheat sheet, telling or asking another student what was on the test are some examples of what is considered cheating. See Beaumont’s Handbook for further details on cheating and plagiarism.
- Make-up Work
- All assignments may be made up if the absence is excused (one make-up day for each day missed is the Norm). The best time to make up work due to my schedule is before school, after school or Block Three.
- Be pro-active and schedule a time to make up the assignment or get the notes/materials before school or after class.
- Excessive absence on a test day will be researched.
- Failure to make up an assignment will result in zero points and an X in the grade book. An X grade indicates a total lack of effort to complete the required course assignments. Three X grades result in lowering your quarter grade one letter. (Foreign Language Dept. Policy)
- Grading
- All assignments, quizzes, tests, projects, etc. will be graded with points rather than letter grades. All points are weighted equally and the amount of points will vary with the type and difficulty of the assignment.
- You need to keep track of your points earned on a Grade Grid so that you may check that I have entered your numbers accurately. This will be collected before parent conferences and returned to you later.
- The standard Beaumont scale (see handbook) is used with rounding up starting at .50.
- Class Participation
- Credit will be given for class participation. To receive this credit you must be actively and constructively participating in class activities. This includes but is not limited to working cooperatively with your partner/group, listening, sharing, paying attention, respecting others’ ideas and opinions.
- Computers
- Beaumont’s policy on the use of the Internet will be strictly enforced.
- The use of the computers for games and other entertainment purposes is not permitted, even during ILT.
- Beaumont, owner of the computers, has the right to review all material composed, sent, received, or displayed on any of the school computers.
- All printing should be done via the printers the Library-unless you have permission of the teacher.
- The use on the Language Lab outside of class time must be arranged with a teacher i.e., before or after school or during an ILT.
- NO COMPUTER PROGRAM BELONGING TO THE SCHOOL FOR USE IN SAT PREP MAY LEAVE THE LAB OR BE TAKEN HOME. THE PROGRAMS ARE LOADED ONLY ON THESE COMPUTERS. WORK MUST BE COMPLETED IN CLASS ON ASSIGNED COMPUTER WITH ASSIGNED DISK.
- Classroom Policies
- Leave large bags and backpacks in your lockers. Bring all materials needed for class and come prepared with your homework. You will not be permitted to go to your lockers during class time.
- You are expected to treat every person with respect and courtesy, whether they are fellow students, teachers, or visitors.
- Late arrival to class will be marked as tardy and a misconduct slip will be issued.
- In the case of a substitute, my expectations of classroom behavior and respect are even higher. I will leave lesson plans to follow along with instructions to administer them. Should ANY conflict arise, there will be a conference scheduled with the Assistant Principal and me to discuss appropriate disciplinary procedures.
- You will have a scheduled ITL every week unless the schedule is loaded with special schedules and class time is needed to complete assignments. ILT is an excellent time to make up work or receive extra help if you have nothing formally scheduled.
- Finally…your behavior dictates the level of discipline in this class. The more self-discipline you employ results less discipline imposed by me.
